Internship Information
WSCA accepts college students and recent graduates ages 18 and older interested in volunteering 8-20 hours per week per semester in exchange for
academic credit, service project hours, and/or resume-building work experience. Non-credit seeking volunteers also welcome.
Program interns are exposed to a wide variety of experiences, that are very beneficial in the non-profit field. Interns are trained in depth about
how the shelter operates, and the types of services offered in this program.
A variety opportunities are presented to interns, including:
- Shelter crisis hotline
- Support Group observation/facilitation
- Children’s Program Assistance
Each intern completes a special project during their semester with the shelter. The project is established and determined by the Executive Director or
the Director of Women’s and Children’s Services in conjunction with the student at the beginning of the term. The project is to be completed by the end of the internship.
Hours are flexible depending on the program. Some shifts are weekdays only; others are evenings/weekend only. Internship students must complete approximately 120
hours over the semester/term or the minimum requirements as determined by their department. Students must register for the academic credits through their department.

Please note that the Women’s Shelter of Central Arkansas only accepts one intern per semester, in order to provide the most complete, comprehensive experience
